Framing in Photography - Compose your scene with a natural frame
Framing in photography means using natural elements from the scenery to create a full or partial frame of your image. For example, you can position yourself so that a tree with an overhanging branch forms the side and top of the frame, accentuating the landscape beyond.
Trees, rocks, bridges, arches, logs, and other items in your landscape can all be used when composing your photo to create a frame. The frame draws attention to the object or scene being framed.
In the image at right see how the trees' trunks and branches frame the edges of the photo, guiding your eye into the canyon landscape beyond. For this shot, I zoomed out all the way, and had to position myself at the idea distance from the trees in order to include just enough of them in the photo.
